Topic: Shaping with a Clicker
Wanting to improve your shaping skills? Don’t even know what that means, but are curious? Learn how to use reward markers to capture behavior to train dogs.
Have ready:
Clicker (Ideally you get your clicker and follow the instructions in Foundations: Conditioning your clicker for a week before we have class if you want to work your dog during class) If you do not wish to use a clicker but still want to shape you can also condition a marker word like “yes”)
Lots of treats -kibble or small pieces of treats you can easily toss and your dog can find easily.
You don’t have to have all of these options- but have at least one or 2 so you can work the exercises
A cardboard box your dog can stand in with at least 2 feet
3 random objects your dog have no association with (like a large kitchen spoon, small tin box, flashlight, tape dispenser, can opener, etc- just random stuff you have that your dog won’t have much natural interest in)
A small plastic lid or target
An object your dog can hold in their mouth (spoon, wooden dowel, nylabone, tug stick, etc)
