Workshop: Engagement: Let's talk Motivation

Topic: Engagement Workshop, Let’s talk Motivation

Motivation is EVERYTHING in dog training, either our dog is motivated to work with us or is motivated to pursue other interests. To beat distractions we need to have well developed relationships with the things our dogs find reinforcing. If you have been following Julia’s journey on IG you will mostly see me playing with her. Because to train her well i need to win her heart and mind. This workshop we will be looking at ways to build our dog’s interest in food, toys and play with us.

Have available:

  • 3-5 of your dogs favorite toys, if they do not play with toys have 2-3 things you can put food in that your dog can’t get the food out without your help- examples: a plastic tube travel toothbrush case, a small locking plastic container, a small fabric bag that zips or velcros shut like toiletry bags, sunglasses cases, small purses, - that you can attach a small string to, food stuffable toys like lotus balls & tug n treats.

  • A light colored treat (charlee bears, string cheese)

  • Some of their kibble

  • a small selection of very high value treats (chicken, cheese, hot dog, etc)

  • two similiar toys you can tug with

  • two similiar toys they can fetch

  • a toy with a very long handle or leash or string attached so your dog can grab it when you are standing up

  • two dog dishes or 2 small bowls or plates your dog can eat from
