Are you attending the Holiday zoom party this weekend? If so, I wanted to share a few of the games we can play that you might want to prepare ahead of time for your dogs! And if you are not able to attend then you can still enjoy some of these enrichment game ideas.

Gift of Scent work

If you have been working on nosework with us all year, you can take that game and create a container search using wrapped gifts! If you are coming to the party and want to try some searches make up some boxes!

  • place your scented swab(s) inside of the box, the more advanced your dog is the harder you can make it by using a scented tin inside of the box, for a less experienced dog you can add 2 scented swabs to make it more challenging. (if you are not using scent odors, you can use some very nice smelling treats)

  • before you wrap the box do a test search to make sure the dog can find the scent in the closed box

  • wrap the box with gift wrap

  • mark the box in some way so you are sure it’s the correct one - I use a few pieces of clear tape I can see

  • you can mix the box in with your other wrapped gifts or you can wrap a few more empty boxes

  • do the first search with the box being the ONLY gift under the tree

  • if they successfully alert, add more gifts

Christmas Crackers for dogs

If you are coming to the party maybe make a few to have ready for your dogs to enjoy!

  • Save your empty TP rolls

  • place some favorite treats inside the empty TP roll

  • wrap the roll in wrapping paper

  • twist the ends closed

  • wrap the ends with ribbon (if your dog is a young puppy or eats things they shouldn’t you can skip this step)

If you have a couple ugly sweaters available have those ready for the party. I’ll also show you how I make pawprint ornaments and some quick easy treat recipes. If you have been practicing the tricks from the Trickmas class you can share with us! Hope to see you there.
